Join the Friends of Washington Ave Green Kick Off meeting on November 30, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Southwark House at 101 Ellsworth Ave.

Washington Avenue Green began its life as City Pier 53. This historic pier has recently earned a new lease on life as the City’s first new green public space on the Delaware in decades! Washington Avenue Green, conveniently located along the riverfront recreational trail, also improves local wildlife habitats. Help generate ways to bring people to the park and get involved with this new resource!

It’s time to celebrate the holidays! Start off the holiday season with your neighbors and friends at the PSCA General Meeting on December 7 at 6:30 pm at the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center at Dickinson and Passyunk Avenue. Instead of a meeting we are having a pot luck party and silent auction to raise funds for the PSCA. So bring a neighbor, bring a favorite holiday dish, and come ready to bid on a few great items at our silent auction!

The 2010 Philly Bagged Leaf Drive will begin Monday, November 8, and will end Friday, December 17. During this six-week program, the Philadelphia Streets Department will collect and compost leaves. This year, only bagged leaf collection will be offered to Philadelphia residents receiving City collection of trash and recycling materials.

Collection guidelines for bagged leaf collection:

DO

* Bag leaves in brown paper biodegradable bags, which can be purchased at most major hardware or home improvement stores.
* Set leaf bags out next to trash and recyclables on trash day

DO NOT

* Bag leaves in plastic bags. Any leaves in plastic bags will be collected as trash.
* Mix trash and leaves.

Leaves in brown paper biodegrable bags may also be taken to any of the three Sanitation Convenience Centers:

* 3033 S. 63rd Street (63rd & Passyunk Ave.)
* Domino Lane and Umbria Street
* State Road and Ashburner Street

Come join PSCA for our annual Fall Tree Planting this Saturday, November 20!

We’ll be meeting at 9AM at Capitolo Playground on 9th St between Wharton and Federal, and planting nearly 40 trees all around our neighborhood. If you have gloves and shovels, definitely bring them, but if not we’ll have some as well. It’s a potluck for breakfast, but coffee and a few other snacks will also be provided.

For lunch, join us afterwards at Devil’s Den at 11th and Ellsworth for 20% off all food and drink for tree volunteers until 5PM. So bring out any and all friends for a beautiful day of beautifying our streets and meeting your neighbors!

Please give us a shout at beautification@passyunk.org to let us know if you’ll be joining us on Saturday, so we can figure out just how beautiful we can make these new trees look and plan the routes! We look forward to seeing you all bright and early on Saturday.
