On Monday, May 23 at 7pm at the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center, the Zoning Committee of the Passyunk Square Civic Association will convene a special meeting to hear from representatives of a project at 1324 Wharton Street. Applicant is seeking variances for use and zoning in order to erect a two-story addition and roof deck with pilot house on an existing one-story structure. The eventual use would be for a three-family dwelling.

On Wednesday, the ZBA granted a one-week continuance for this project in order for the PSCA Zoning Committee to have time to meet with the applicant. The new ZBA hearing date for this project is May 25, 2011.

Neighbors in the immediate vicinity of this project are strongly encouraged to attend Monday night’s meeting and make their opinion known to the Committee which will then forward that information to the ZBA.

This afternoon, starting at 2pm, the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) (1515 Arch Street, 18th Floor) will begin hearing a number of cases, one of which is 1324 Wharton Street (Calendar Number 14965). The Zoning Committee of the PSCA has sent a letter to the ZBA requesting a continuance since they have not had an opportunity to hear from the applicant who is seeking a use variance for a three-family dwelling in an R10A (single family) building. The Committee has learned that the attorney for the case will be pressing for approval from the ZBA today rather than agree to continue the case.

The applicant arrived at the Zoning Committee meeting on May 10 without having been put on the schedule so was asked by the Committee to request a place on the June 14 agenda. Up to that point, the Zoning Committee had not heard of this project.

While representatives from the Zoning Committee are trying to rearrange their schedules so that at least one of them can attend the meeting, none of them may be able to make it. The Committee is requesting that anyone in the community, especially anyone who lives close to 1324 Wharton, who can attend today’s hearing, please do and strongly urge the ZBA to grant a continuance until such time that the Zoning Committee can meet with the applicant.

The group of cases that includes this one begins at 2pm and is on the 18th Floor of 1515 Arch Street.
