Last night at the general meeting of the Passyunk Square Civic Association, the Zoning Committee announced that the following cases will come before the committee during its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 10:

1. 1137 Wharton Street: Application is for a five-family dwelling on the second floor above existing office space that is used for community group and equipment storage. The proposed use is not permitted in this zoning district.

2. 1107 Gerritt Street: Applicant is seeking to build a two-story addition at the rear of a single family dwelling. The proposed structure is refused because it results in less (11%) than the required (30%) open space for this lot.

3. 1536 East Passyunk Avenue: Application is for a bar/restaurant on the first floor in the same building with two existing apartments above. The proposed use is a prohibited use in this district.

Any neighbors who are interested in the outcome of these cases should attend the Zoning Committee meeting at 7pm on May 10 at the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center (S.P.O.A.C.) at the corner of East Passyunk and Dickinson. We encourage you to take a walk around the neighborhood and get a sense of where these structures are, what they are and how the proposed use might affect the surrounding area. At the meeting you will be able to give comment and find out when the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) will be hearing the appeals for these cases. Upon completion of each case, the PSCA Zoning Committee will vote either to oppose or not oppose the project and that decision, along with a general sense of the sentiment of those in attendance, will be conveyed to the ZBA for their use in making the final decision on these cases.

The Zoning Committee of the Passyunk Square Civic Association meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm at S.P.O.A.C. Members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend to find out what development is taking place in their neighborhood.
