Planning and Zoning19 Aug 2011 09:45 am

The developer of the lot at 921-931 Ellsworth got in touch with us and let us know that they have recently been awarded tax credits from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency which will allow them to begin construction on the senior housing project between Thanksgiving and Christmas of this year.

Currently they are working to complete their civil engineering and architectural plans.  To do so they will be conducting two weeks of tests on the soils below the parking lot.  To that end they have an executed agreement with the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Parking Authority.  These tests are scheduled to begin on 22 August and last until 5 September.

During this time period the parking lot will be closed to any vehicles not involved with the construction so that the drilling equipment has room to work.  At the conclusion of this work the parking lot will once again be open for general parking.

If you have any questions, feel free to email parking (at) and we will pass those questions along to the developer.

Columbus Square and Event18 Aug 2011 11:51 am

Thanks to everyone, especially our good friends at the Columbus Square Park Advisory Council, who helped make last night’s event at Columbus Square such a fun time.

Specifically we’d like to thank:

  • the Philadelphia Police Department for providing fingerprinting for the little ones (though some parents didn’t get that the fingerprints were for the them not the cops)
  • the Philadelphia Fire Department for fire safety tips and for having a piece of their apparatus parked impressively across the street
  • Rita’s Water Ice for handing out over 200 cups of water ice (so that’s what all those red mouths were from)
  • Create-A-Face for face painting and showing the teens in the crowd that they’re not too old or “cool” to act like a kid
  • PAWS for the work they did with our neighborhood pet owners (who were out in full force in the dog run last night)
  • The good folks at the Philly Pretzel Factor for providing me with dinner
  • and, Lawn Chair Drive-In for a great way to wrap up the evening.

Finally, we’d especially like to thank Pam Zenzola and Rob Flint from the Passyunk Square Civic Association and Ilene Wilder and Chris DeCapua from the Columbus Square Park Advisory Council for their efforts before and during the event to organize and ensure a great evening for everyone!
