Town Watch03 Jun 2013 07:59 pm

National Night Out, the annual festival of community safety and solidarity, is scheduled this year for Tuesday, August 6. This is the 29th year that Town Watch organizations across the country have sponsored NNO. A big kick-off celebration, the Night Before National Night Out, will take place on Monday, August 5 in Sacks Park (Washington Avenue & 4th Street). The kick-off party will bring together all the neighborhoods from South Street to the Navy Yard and Front Street to the Schuykill. Games, food, entertainers, and a wide array of service organizations from health care groups to city agencies and civic organizations will be at the park from 5-8pm on August 5.

The PSCA urges residents to Light Up their neighborhoods on National Night Out. Turn on your house lights, go into the streets to meet your neighbors, and enjoy an informal block party while building the community bonds that make our neighborhood a great place to live. The Association’s Neighborhood Ambassadors are also planning a series of NNO-inspired Flashlight Parades throughout the month of August. Details on how to join this effort to educate residents on crime and fire prevention programs will appear in next month’s newsletter.

Interested in helping PSCA nominate buildings in our neighborhood to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places? Listing in the register protects the building from demolition or adverse alteration. Properties should possess historical, cultural, architectural, archaeological or educational value to the city, state, or nation. PSCA is looking for volunteers to assist in identifying buildings and preparing nominations. Please email planning@passyunk.org if you are interested.
