This Tuesday, November 5 is an important day, being both an Election Day in Philadelphia and the PSCA General Meeting. On your way home from work, stop by your polling location then head on over to the PSCA meeting at Annunciation Church Hall (10th and Dickinson) at 6:30pm. Come to the GM to hear about what is in store, as your calendars for November and December will be filled with PSCA activities and events!

In addition to updates from the various PSCA committees we will have two presentations:

The South Philly Food Co-op recently surpassed the 500 member-owner mark and is well on its way of reaching its next major milestone of 600 at which point it will be looking to sign a lease with contingencies for a location. In the meantime, the Real Estate Committee and Board of Directors continue to search for and evaluate potential spots while other committees work on attracting new members, organizing great get-togethers for current and prospective members and spread the word about the Co-op to increase awareness throughout the neighborhood. A representative of the South Philly Food Co-op will be at our general membership meeting to tell us a little more about what the Co-op is, how it will benefit this part of the city, what kind of progress its volunteers have made and how YOU can become a part of it. More information can be found at www.southphillyfoodcoop.org.

Jackson’s Green Day – The planning is complete, the steps are now underway for the construction of the rooftop garden at Andrew Jackson school. Steve Viscelli one of the visionary leaders of this project will be on hand to give a presentation of the plans for the building of the garden, the ribbon cutting event and how the garden will play in the student curriculum. The community celebration will take place on November 23 from 2-4pm.
