South Philly Language Exchange Program
Do you want to learn some Spanish? Would you like to meet Spanish-speaking neighbors and help them to learn English, while supporting a local Mexican restaurant and building community in Passyunk Square? If so, stay tuned on our Facebook page and passyunksquare.org for details on our next Language Exchange event! We generally meet one Thursday evening each month at a local restaurant to socialize and chat. This event is open to everyone and is informal and fun. If you come, you can order food or not, and you will be made to feel welcome!

ESL Classes
New five-week sessions of ESL classes for Level 0 and Level 1 are underway on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Columbus Square Rec Center. Level 1 began on January 27, and Level 0 will begin on Tuesday, February 3. Watch for information on our Facebook page and passyunksquare.org for upcoming sessions.

stormwatergardenSoak It Up! Adoption Program
PSCA is working with the Philadelphia Water Department this year to ensure that stormwater management installations in our neighborhood – the planters and rain garden at Columbus Square Park, the planter outside the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center, the tree trench on 12th Street between Dickinson and Tasker, and the tree trench on 10th Street between Wilder and Reed – are as beautiful as they are effective in keeping our water clean. Thank you to those who have already volunteered to help! If you are interested in being trained to monitor stormwater sites, please email beautification@passyunk.org. Being a monitor is as easy as submitting an online form each week to report on the condition of these gardens. You can also read more about PWD’s innovative Green Cities, Clean Waters initiative at their website.
