Curious about rain gardens and the other green tools being used to keep our water clean? 

We have two excited opportunities to learn more about the green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) being used right in our own backyard!

East Passyunk Green Stormwater Infrastructure Tour and Happy Hour – Date TBD!

Join PSCA and the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) for a guided tour of the six green infrastructure sites located within East Passyunk to learn more about how the green tools improve our water quality in conjunction with PWD’s innovative Green Cities, Clean Waters initiative. After the tour, continue the conversation over a drink at Garage for a GSI Happy Hour.

Keep Our Green Tools Beautiful by Becoming a PSCA GSI Volunteer!

Help the PWD keep the neighborhood GSI sites beautiful and effective by joining our group of PSCA volunteers!

As PSCA continues its partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) by working with neighborhood volunteers, we are looking to expand our group trained to identify and report on problems with green stormwater installations.

Reporting is an easy process done through a short, mobile survey completed onsite in a matter of minutes while you walk your dog or take the stroller around the neighborhood!

The six sites are easily accessible and located across East Passyunk, with planters and a rain garden at Columbus Square Park, a planter outside the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center, a tree trench on 12th Street between Dickinson and Tasker Streets, and a tree trench on 10th Street between Wilder and Reed Streets.

On July 12, 2016, PSCA was awarded a microgrant of $1,500 to use towards the goal in our proposal, which is to spread anti-litter education and provide local businesses with equipment to help them reduce litter.  To that end, PSCA needs your help! Our grant allows us to outfit about 18 restaurants with outdoor trashcans and cleanup supplies. The PSCA Environmental Committee would like to solicit ideas from our neighbors for which local takeout businesses they would like to see outfitted with these supplies. If you have an idea of a restaurant in our neighborhood, that is subject to this ordinance and could use our help with complying, please email us at contact@passyunk.org. Once we choose the businesses to participate, we will need help from you all, doing following up and out-reach to the businesses, to help get them interested in the project.

Save the Date:
Get a look inside some of our neighborhoods most interesting homes! Go home with great ideas for renovations and interior design, meet neighbors and support Passyunk Square Civic Association programs.

Get Involved:
On Saturday, October 29, 2016, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm the Passyunk Square Civic Association (PSCA) will host our 13th Annual Home Tour.  The self-guided tour of homes throughout the Passyunk Square neighborhood has been a successful fundraiser in previous years and we are hoping to have the same success in 2016.  Proceeds support activities that beautify the neighborhood and make Passyunk Square a wonderful place to live. The PSCA has helped in reinvigorating the neighborhood by engaging sidewalk sweeping services for major streets, sponsoring community activities and events, attracting new businesses in our general area, and working with local businesses, neighbors, schools and government.

We need your help to make the tour a success!

Consider volunteering to show your home during the 2016 Home Tour.  The Home Tour showcases homes in all stages of renovation, to provide a chance to compare contractors, get ideas, and meet your neighbors. Please note your home does not need to be in pristine condition: work-in progress homes will also be featured.

Ticket Sales/Sponsorship Volunteer(s)

  • If you have great relationships with area businesses, share our sponsorship letter and solicit sponsorships
  • Set up on-line ticket sales (e.g. Eventbrite)
  • Track all sales

Marketing Volunteer(s)

  • Design home tour flyer and banner
  • Distribute home tour flyers

Home Tour Program

  • Design and write home tour guide based on participating homes

Day of Volunteers

  • Take shifts checking tour goers in and handing out info
  • Pick up balloons and distribute with information to participating homes
