November 2016

1236-ellsworth 1234-warnock-bCongratulations to our November Stoop of the Month winners! This month we had a tie, and we are happy to present two winners. Both of these stoop gardeners have filled their space with a colorful variety of potted plants in a fun mix of sizes and shapes. The bright yellow sconce at 1236 Ellsworth is a nice complement to its blue door, the street tree at 1234 Warnock gives the stoop a cozy dappled light, and both houses have sweet, decorative address tiles. Kudos to the home owners, they’ll each be getting a $10 gift certificate to Urban Jungle.

Do you know a stoop that should be recognized as Stoop of the Month? Send us your nominations by Friday,November 25th!

To apply,

fill out this google form http://goo.gl/forms/7XutF5lqxh
OR

email us at stoopofthemonth@passyunk.org

We only need your name, the address, and a 1-2 sentence description of what makes this stoop special. Please include a photo of the house and, if it isn’t your house, the name & phone/email of the resident if possible.

It’s time for our Fall Planting! This is a fun way to help the neighborhood and meet others interested in beautifying our community.  We’ll be meeting at 8:45 am at Capitolo Playground Rec Center (900 Federal Street.) We’ll go through a brief training, then head out to plant the trees. We should be finished up around noon and will then meet up for a celebratory drink at The Garage.

If you’re interested in joining us, email Sarah Anton at beautification@passyunk.org, or just show up the day of the planting. No experience needed, bring tools if you have them or we can provide as well.

If you can’t attend the tree planting, there are lots of other ways you can help add trees to the neighborhood:

PSCA Tree Tenders Meetup

Meetup Wednesday, November 16th, 6:30-8:30 at Triangle Tavern (1338 S 10th St) with other tree enthusiasts! If you’ve been through the PHS Tree Tender program or are interested in learning more, join us for an informal meet-up about how this program works in our neighborhood. We’ll talk about plans to recruit more tree applications and to care for existing trees. Email us at beautifcation@passyunk.org if you plan to attend.
Apply for a Tree – Or Encourage Your Neighbors To!

Tree applications for our Spring 2017 neighborhood planting are due November 25. You can download an application here or you can now fill out your form online through PHS Urban Forest Cloud website! If you have questions about filling out the online form or want to send us one you’ve downloaded and completed, email Sarah Anton at beautification@passyunk.org.

If you need coaching on reaching out to your neighbors or want help canvassing your block, email us and let us know. We’re happy to help! We’ll also be collecting forms and answering questions at the fountain farmers market (East Passyunk and Tasker) on Wednesdays until Thanksgiving from 4-6. Stop by and say hello!
Consider a Yard Tree

We still have a few yard trees to give away from our October event. You can arrange to pick one up at Passyunk Gardens any Sunday in November from 4-6. Register here – southphillygreen.ticketleap.com/yardtrees – and check back as more trees become available.
