NO GENERAL MEETING IN JULY AND AUGUST

Happy 4th of July! Please note there is no general meeting tonight. Zoning meetings continue through the summer with the next meeting on July 11th (see below for details).

General meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month except in July and August at the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center (1430 E. Passyunk Ave). Hear updates about projects in the neighborhood and how to get involved with communications, beautification, clean streets, education and other initiatives. You can also let us know if you’re interested in volunteering by visiting our website and filling out our volunteer form.

FREE Cooking Classes!

Starting – Sunday July 9, 2017

4:15 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

New event at the garden the from July through October! Free cooking classes on the second Sunday of the month with Reese Amorosi of Glamorosi Cooks during our regular open hours. Classes include planting, growing and cooking info. All skill levels welcome. Learn more at: http://glamorosicooks.com/classes/ or check out the event page on Facebook.

Hang Out in the Garden Every Sunday 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Come enjoy the garden, check out what we are growing and get gardening questions answered every Sunday. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors and other gardeners and enjoy a pocket of green space in the neighborhood. Occasionally we do some clean-up and weeding tasks and neighbors are welcome to clip herbs and greens and whatever is abundant at the moment. We also often have extra starter plants for sale to benefit the work at the garden. If you would like to join the team that maintains the garden, email us at beautification@passyunk.org.

Jackson HSA wants to say thank you to all the families, volunteers and community partners who made the Jackson Family Fun Day a huge success. We provided a great day of free fun to the entire school! If any community partner would like to join next year’s fun, email Jacksonhsa@gmail.com

Jackson has a new School Advisory Council that works with the Principal and staff to advise on school budget, policy and curriculum. The meetings are open to the public and are on the first Monday at the school. We are in need of one more community organization member. For more information email  Andrew.jackson.school.sac@gmail.com

The year was Principal Lisa Kaplan’s last year at Jackson and we are so grateful for her amazing work at our neighborhood school. She has been an amazing leader and wonderful partner in the neighborhood. We wish her very well and well-deserved rest! Welcome to Jackson’s new principal, Kelly Espinosa. Welcome to the neighborhood and we look forward to working with you!

Passyunk Square Civic Association was so proud to be part of the unveiling of a new mural created by Kirkbride students and Cosacosa Art at Large made possible by funding from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Philadelphia Cultural Fund and the Picasso Project. It’s a beautiful mural and the process of creating it was extraordinary to hear about. Read all about it! Thank you to Mayor Kenney for some beautiful words at the unveiling.
