PSCA is partnering up with our neighbors to the east, the SoPhilly Community Group, to clean up 6th Street from Wharton to Mifflin. This stretch sits right on the border between our two groups and is a major thoroughfare heading south. As such it could use a little extra special attention. Please come join us for our 2nd SoPhilly Street Cleanup event taking place on Sunday, May 1st on 6th Street!

The MAYDAY 6th Street Cleanup will begin at noon. Please meet at Gold Star Park to sign-in starting at 11:30am.  Pretzels and water will be available!  We look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks to everyone who brought their Christmas tree to be recycled into chips for local parks and gardens. In all, we chipped around 450 trees and raised $1200 that will be divided up among the 6 South Philadelphia organizations that coordinated the event. The proceeds will go towards additional greening projects in the neighborhood.

In partnership with RecycleBank, the company behind the Philadelphia Recycling Rewards program, RecycleNOW Philadelphia is now training community recycling activists to sign people up for the program so we can help more people recycle more material. Residents can help make a difference in their community by helping to sign-up neighbors, co-workers, friends, family, church members, reading club, or anyone else!

Why should you become a Community Recycling Activist?
1) You — and 12,000 recycling supporters like you – demanded RecycleBank! Now that the program is citywide, we need to make it successful by getting more people signed up.

2) Recycling Rewards are accumulated on a community basis, so the more of your neighbors that participate in the program, the more rewards you all receive!

3) Despite making tremendous strides in improving recycling in Philadelphia, 80% of residential waste is still going to landfills and incinerators. We must do better, and the rewards program provides the incentive that many people need to start recycling, or to recycle more.

Attend a Community Activist Training in your neighborhood where recycling experts will answer commonly asked questions, and provide you all the information and materials you need to help sign up others.
