The rest of the country will celebrate National Night Out, the annual community safety festival, on Tuesday, August 6. But in the heart of South Philadelphia, the Passyunk Square community will celebrate National Month Out.

The celebrations begin on Aug. 5 with a big kick-off and rally at Sachs Park (Washington Avenue & 4th Street) from 5:00-8:00 on Monday, August 5. On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the PSCA urges residents to celebrate the Official National Night Out by lighting up every block of every street, from 6th Street to Broad between Washington and Tasker. Turn on your house lights, go into the streets to meet your neighbors, and enjoy an informal block party while building the community bonds that make our neighborhood a great place to live.

PSCA Neighborhood Ambassadors will emphasize the importance of those bonds throughout the month. The Ambassadors plan to conduct five flashlight parades between July 30 and Labor Day. They will visit neighborhoods to distribute information on ways to improve lighting and prevent robberies, home burglaries, car break-ins and bicycle theft. If you’re free on one of the scheduled evenings or mornings — criminals go to work early, too — bring a flashlight and join the effort to make our streets even safer, we’d like to see as many neighbors join us as possible!
